TRIBES is where story meets revolution. Founded by artist and award-winning filmmaker Leslie Cunningham in Durham, NC, TRIBES is a boutique digital media company dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices through bold, culture-shifting storytelling.
With roots in filmmaking, publishing, marketing, and live events, we create projects that spark dialogue, preserve culture, and inspire change. From award-winning documentaries to grassroots campaigns and cultural programming, TRIBES is where creativity, culture, and purpose collide.
One of our flagship multimedia work, The Harlem in Havana Project — winner of Dancinema’s Uncovering History Award — revives the untold story of the legendary Black and Cuban revue that broke barriers and shaped entertainment history. It’s just one example of how we use storytelling to re-center the narratives that matter.
